Admission FAQ

Enrollment opens at different times; when enrollment opens for you depends on your student status at KU.  

Freshmen  

First-time freshmen will enroll in classes during New Student Orientation. To confirm your place, you can set up your KU Online ID and email address and pay your enrollment deposit.  Instructions for completing these steps so that you are prepared to enroll can be found here

Current Students  

Each semester, you will receive an email from the Registrar’s Office with your enrollment appointment date. Once you have met with your advisor and have had any enrollment holds removed, you will be able to enroll starting on your assigned date.    

Readmitted Students  

Readmitted students can view their assigned enrollment appointments in Enroll & Pay. Enrollment usually opens in April for summer/fall and opens in October for spring (see the Academic Calendar for specific dates); if you have questions about when onboarding and enrollment will begin for you and you haven’t heard from a KU Navigator to schedule an enrollment appointment, please call 785-864-1218. Once you have met with your advisor and have had any enrollment holds removed, you will be able to enroll starting on your assigned date.    

New Students - Transfer  

Enrollment usually opens in April for summer/fall and opens in October for spring (see the Academic Calendar for specific dates); if you have questions about when onboarding and enrollment will begin for you and you haven’t heard from a KU Navigator to schedule an enrollment appointment, please call 785-864-1218.  Once you have met with your advisor and have had any enrollment holds removed, you will be able to enroll starting on your assigned date.  

New Students - Graduate  

Typically, enrollment for new degree-seeking graduate students opens in mid-April for summer/fall and in mid-November for spring. Exceptions to this are noted in the academic calendar (Academic Calendar | Office of the University Registrar).  Students should prepare to enroll by following the steps on this page

International  

After being admitted, international students have a series of tasks to complete before arriving at KU, including registering for Orientation. Visit  International Support Services for more details. Enrollment will coincide with your arrival in United States and Orientation.   

Freshman

In the weeks leading up to your first day at KU, there are several tasks you can complete to make sure everything goes smoothly. You can find a complete list of those tasks here: https://admissions.ku.edu/freshman-enrollment.

Transfer

Several days after you are officially admitted, you will receive a phone call from an Academic Success Navigator to help you schedule a KU Tech Session. A KU Tech Session is a 30-minute virtual meeting in which you work with an Academic Success Navigator to activate your KU accounts and gain familiarity with KU systems, including Enroll & Pay, Jayhawk GPS/Navigate 360, DUO, and others.

You will also register for orientation and book an enrollment meeting with an advisor during your tech session. If you haven’t heard from an Academic Success Navigator yet, feel free to contact the team at 785-864-1218 or kunavigators@ku.edu

Readmit

Several days after you are officially readmitted, you will receive a phone call from an Academic Success Navigator to assist you in scheduling an enrollment meeting with an advisor. Readmitted students are also offered the opportunity to complete a KU Tech Session and Orientation, but these steps are not required to enroll. If you haven’t heard from an Academic Success Navigator yet, feel free to contact the team at 785-864-1218 or kunavigators@ku.edu

Graduate

Once you have been admitted to a graduate program at KU, please accept your offer of admission by logging back into your KU Graduate Admissions portal here: https://gograd.ku.edu/account/login. Once this step is complete, please reference this

page for additional tasks that you should complete before your first day of classes: https://gradapply.ku.edu/enroll.

International

After being admitted, international students have a series of tasks to complete before arriving at KU, including registering for Orientation. Visit International Support Services for more details.

Freshman

For an admitted freshman, the first step to Orientation registration is to set up their KU online ID and password and pay their enrollment deposit. You can find detailed instructions and a link to register for Orientation on the KU Orientation page

Transfer

Transfer students will participate in a Transfer Onboarding session to prepare for their time at KU. A KU Navigator will help you register for an Onboarding session during your KU Tech session. If you need to connect with a KU Navigator, please email kunavigators@ku.edu or call 785-864-1218.

Graduate 

Graduate students at KU will be invited to one or more Graduate Student Orientation sessions as determined by their program of study and student status. 

International

All new international students are required to register and attend International Student Orientation
