First, meet with an academic advisor and financial aid counselor to discuss the repercussions of withdrawing or dropping your classes.
Once you feel confident that withdrawing or dropping is the best option for you then go and “Withdraw from All Classes” in Enroll and Pay.
At the University of Kansas, medical withdrawal also known as compassionate/retroactive withdrawal or Undergraduate Petition to Withdraw After Deadline, allows students facing extraordinary circumstances, such as serious illness or injury such as hospitalizations, to withdraw from courses after the regular withdrawal deadline, resulting in a “W” grade on their transcripts.
- If you wish to do a retroactive withdrawal also known as compassionate withdrawal or Undergraduate Petition to Withdraw After Deadline, see the link below to see if your eligible: Retroactive Withdrawal | College Undergraduate Academic Services
- If you are, click the hyperlinked “Undergraduate Petition to Withdraw After Deadline form.” This will prompt you to log into your KU account.
- Once logged in, you will be able to fill out the form. Some important areas to note:
- If you are doing a retroactive withdrawal you will want to specify “Full Term” to withdrawal from the whole semester. Make sure to also specify which academic semester you are withdrawing from.
- Student Explanations: This is an important section where you want to be as detailed as possible. This will help the board when meeting to come to a conclusion about your retroactive withdrawal.
- Make sure to include any supporting documentation that will be helpful with your explanation and withdrawal including medical documents, doctor’s letters, letters of support from supporting staff including teachers, and any other documentation that will help paint a picture for the people reviewing your application.
- Department Notification: Clicking these boxes will also send your application to these departments
- Financial Aid and Scholarships: important to send if you have financial support you are receiving
- Housing: If you were living in housing during the withdrawal term or are looking to get money back for housing due to the withdrawal
- Office of the University Registrar: This one is the one you will click for a fee petition (if you are trying to get money back with your withdrawal)
- Parking: Notifies them if you have a parking pass during this time.
- Once submitted, the document can take TIME FRAME to process. You will be notified through your KU email of the decision.
- If you have any questions or would like help filling out this application, reach out to Hawk Link to set up an appointment and one of the Hawk Link Coordinators can help you fill them out and answer any questions you have.
